A Different View is the product of over 5o years of thought on questions that lie at the very heart of scientific enquiry – the way that the cosmos originated and how it and everything in it functions. In this, his first book, Ken Williams puts forward a theory that is both highly original and radical, yet ultimately elegant and simple, as opposed to simplistic, in its basic underlying concept,.

The author argues that the universe and everything in it functions according the effect of an underlying tension between an innate tendency to form straight lines and the inclination of these straight lines to rotate and form a circle. This can be seen, for example, in the two extremes of morphological manifestation, the cube and the sphere, which are but three-dimensional manifestations of the circle and the square, which is in turn derived from the straight line. Everything in the universe, according to Ken Williams, is a combination of these two basic forms.

Within this basic principle lies the foundation for an understanding of how everything in the cosmos actually works, from creation itself to the orbiting of planets, to the structure of the atom.

The author goes on to explain how we can only understand the cosmos properly if we are able to devise a system of measurement that is appropriate to its innate qualities, as opposed to using systems that are human constructs and which might serve our purposes quite adequately in an earth-based, time-space configuration but from a cosmic point of view are ultimately irrelevant, since they are rooted in human convenience.

Such a system has in fact been known since ancient times, but neglected in its application to cosmic understanding. This system resides in ratios or fractions, as opposed to fixed systems of calculation such as the decimal, and at its heart lies Pi – the ratio of a circle to its diameter – that was known to the ancients Greeks and possibly also to earlier civilisations. The implications of Pi as a working principle are enormous and truly profound, offering the key to an understanding of time, mass and energy in its different manifestations from light to electromotive force.

Replete with geometric drawings that illustrate the straight line/circle rotational principle in its myriad manifestations, Different View is a book that demands to be read by any scientifically literate enquiring individual who is receptive to new ideas and prepared to judge them on their inherent merits. This is book that challenges the foundations of scientific orthodoxy.
